This gentleman is a native of Inverness , Scotland, born February 1821, and is the third son of Mr. Simon Leslie. He followed farming up to 1846, when he sailed in the ship ‘ Isabella Watson ‘ for S.A., and after his arrival here was first engaged to work on a farm at 12s. Per week. He first started for himself by taking land in the McLaren Vale from the S.A. Land Co. For eight years ,and next purchased two sections from the Government in 1860 and soon increased it to 500 acres, which he utilizes for agricultural purposes and for grazing sheep and cattle, and by working his farm systematically has been fairly successful, the average hay crop being 2 ½ tons per acre. Mr. Leslie represented Strathalbyn as councillor for six years, and the Bremer district for ten years.

He was married about 1850 to Miss Mary Aird, of Ayrshire, and has a family of three sons and one daughter living.

He believes in moderate protection to colonial industries and a progressive land tax.
