*A descendant of Mrs. Mary Sparkes advises that the original limestone buildings at the rear of the shops were originally a boarding house run by the late Mrs. Mary Sparkes (nee Knighton).  Mary arrived in Goolwa in 1852 with her husband , and died in 1901.  Further detail of the Sparkes and McConnachys are contained in the History Room Compactus.  See also Sparkes - Mary and Rosanna
